The deacons

are designed by God to serve the body of Christ through administering the mercy ministry of the church and doing the work of benevolence.

This includes:

  • Coordinating the visitation of the sick, the elderly, and shut-ins

  • Ministering to the needs of widows and widowers in accordance with 1 Tim. 5:3-16

  • Ministering to the needs of orphans from within FBC

  • Being alert to the spiritual and physical needs of the congregation

Deacons serve a crucial role of freeing up the elders to focus on prayer and the ministry of the word (Acts 6:1-4). Thus they serve under the oversight of the elders to further the spread of the gospel. They must meet the qualifications listed in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.
